Re: Informix Performance

Hi There, Suto's book is an excellent choice. You should continue monitoring the Informix OnLine state using the tbcheck option. I think tbcheck -cc (check catalog tables), tbcheck -ce (check extents) tbcheck -cI (check indexes) will suffice. What you are looking for is coruption in the Informix catalog tables, serious fragmentation (ce output) and corrupt indexes. Other factors affecting performance are perhaps too numerous to mention here. If you can grab the FAQ I'm sure you'll find that the group here recommend as absolute necessary a regular "update statistics" first and a seperation of the logical logs from the rootdbs as another measure in tuning. Try select tabname from systables where npused < 0. This will show if you have a version with the npused bug. This sends the optimizer on the wrong path. There is a fix for this also! Another easily tunable parameter is the number of buffers. As usual, there are a multitude of areas you should be looking at. RTFM and keep abreast of the technical stuff addressed here in C.D.I. If you still have trouble then post some more information and I'm sure the good folks here can come up with a solution Hope This Helps, Tom Hogarty <Standard Disclaimers Apply> Pyramid Technology Corp
