Informix v7.3 vs 9 on NT Server

Had to be sure and put NT in the subject line, so those of you who get sick at the mention of MS will not bother to wander in this message. I was told by an Informix employee (instructor) that not only is my firm entitled to a free upgrade to version 9 but that it runs 20% faster than version 7. I questioned him about what os that was tested on and he was unsure if NT was included in this performance rating. Anyone out there have an experience with the two different version on NT and see a marked improvement? If no improvement, is there any compelling reason why I would want to upgrade? (In light of the fact that I am at the beginning of the learning curve.) Right now for me, other than complaints about slowness, version 7.31 "ain't broke" so I'm wondering if I should "fix it".
