Dear ALL, I do not know anything about Sybase and I have a couple very basic questions on Sybase. The reason is that our product is running on Oracle only and we are thinking of migrating to Sybase. Currently, we are just concentraing on UNIX platforms. Here are some of the questions that I have in mind: 1. In Oracle, they have PL/SQL , a kind of 3GL procedural language which is very efficeint and which could accomodate stored procedures, packages and triggers within the Database. What tools do Sybase offer? 2, How does Sybase handle inter-process communication? In Oracle, we have 'pipes', in which one process could send messages down a pipe and another process listening down the pipe to take some action. 3. In Oracle, they have CLOB, BLOB (Large Structures), which could handle data item of size up to 2 GB. Is there similar offering in Sybase? Are they easy to manipulate? 4. In Oracle, they have 'sequence', internally generated number which is unique and non-reusable. They are very efficient. DO we have similar thing in Sybase? 5. Can Sybase access system services through its own program interface? In Oracle, they have so called external procedures which are essentially shared libary written in C or Java and which could access all kinds of services. Thanks for any advice Anthony Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Serendipity! That's right, Informix is the one. Rudy akkha@my-deja.com wrote: > Dear ALL, > > I do not know anything about Sybase and I have a couple very basic questions > on Sybase.
