Help testing EGM 7.31.UD3
Posted in 2011
A user setting up Enterprise Gateway Manager (EGM 7.31.UD3) on Linux x64 with IDS 11.70.FC2 against SQL Server 2008 R2 hit error -29080 on the egmdba connection test; Deepa Nadagi pointed out the InstallDir entry in odbc.ini had to give the exact location of odbc.ini, which fixed it. A follow-on error 29030 (DIRECT ACCESS MODE not supported) was solved by setting GWDIRECTMODE=1 and restarting the daemon. A month later the same user reported error 329 doing cross-server selects through the gateway on a new box; sqlhosts/services settings were discussed but no resolution is recorded.

Hello, friends. I´m having some troubles here testing EGM, on a linux_64 machine, running Informix 11.70.FC2, acessing an sql server 2008 R2. When I test the connection, over egmdba, I receive the following message: -29080:Target DBMS Error ([103 10104 Micro:10.50.1600] The number that starts w ith '0423004230042). Does it means that the included driver does not support sql server 2008 R2? (just a guess) If so, where can I get the latest one? On DataDirect site? Thanks a lot.
Hi, In the odbc.ini file, what does InstallDir point to? Change the InstallDir to include the exact location of the odbc.ini. Ok, now i´m facing another issue:
I´ve connected to the external database, installed the Informix catalog,
but when I try to connect to the gateway, via dbaccess, it shows me:
29030: Feature (DIRECT ACCESS MODE) not supported by the Gateway.
(doubt) wouldn´t my dbaccess show the database alias of the connection,
on "Database -> Select" menu ???
Even if I try to specify the username and password, via Connecion ->
Connect, it doesn´t work, showing sql error 29030.
What could be wrong, since my Test-connect option of egmdba utility was
just fine?
Thanks, again.

For getting the DIRECT MODE ACCESS, you need to set this GWDIRECTMODE
env variable to 1 and restart the daemon.
I believe this is documented.

Hello, my friends.
11.70.FC2 on a linux_64 redhat machine
I am actually having some strange problem configuring EGM on another server.
(I need to do it again, since the previous server is not available anymore).
All my previous steps were completed, and now I made the connection test,
using egmdba utility, just fine.
When I connect using INFORMIXSERVER=egm_teste (my egm service), into the
external database, all runs fine (select data, and etc).
When I run the egmdba -ts option, it also runs just fine!
But when I try to access it inside any Informix database, on the same machine,
it shows me an error. I am trying to do it on the same database, and table
before.
select * from [db_alias]@egm_teste:[owner].[table_name]329: Database not found or no system permission.
111: ISAM error: no record found.
Am I missing something authentication parameter?
Here are my uncommented lines of egmenv.sh:
INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix
PATH=$INFORMIXDIR/bin:$INFORMIXDIR/lib:$PATH
INFORMIXSERVER=egm_teste
export INFORMIXDIR INFORMIXSERVER PATH
TERM=vt100
export TERM
ODBCINI=$INFORMIXDIR/egm/odbc/odbc.ini
export ODBCINI
export GWDIRECTMODE=1
I am totally dizzy here, if someone could help me, would be very nice.
Thanks again, friends.
Best regards.
Have you set INFORMIXSQLHOSTS? And your sqlhost file should contain
the egm_teste details.

Yes Mr Nadagi, but I am using the default (not setting $INFORMIXSQLHOST
environment variable).
My sqlhosts file is:
teste onsoctcp s357
teste #--- informix instance
egm_teste onsoctcp s357 egm_teste #---
egm instance
My /etc/services:
teste 3556/tcp #--- instancia 1
egm_teste 3550/tcp #--- teste EGM gateway
And my /etc/hosts.equiv file includes the external server (sql server
machine):
s488
Which is this (/etc/hosts):
10.2.10.10 s488
My egmdba has already have a user mapping:
Unix User ID [informix ]
Data Source Name [sql_bd_faz ]
Data Source User ID [usuariofro ]
What really is happening is that one database is not "seeing" another,
without doing a Connection->Connect on dbaccess.
If I do that command, I am able to connect, but no external databases
are available.
Very strange.... I never saw this issue before.
Thanks again for your attention.
Best regards.
