I don't want this new window pops up by default. Because in most cases the URL will be less than 40 chars. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. BTW I have found the answer of my first question. I want to share my resolution with the people those are interested. First I put AUTONEXT attribute for that 40-char long field (url). Once user hits the 40st char AUTONEXT attribute causes the cursor leave from the field and that invokes 'AFTER FIELD url' block. That works like a charm. :) AFTER FIELD url IF LENGTH(GET_FLDBUF(url)) = 40 THEN OPEN WINDOW w_url AT 6,10 WITH FORM "url" ATTRIBUTE(BORDER) INPUT BY NAME url WITHOUT DEFAULTS ATTRIBUTE(REVERSE) CLOSE WINDOW w_url END IF I am still working on my second question. I am still open the ideas on this one. Thanks again! In a similar situation, I set ctrl-Z to call the pop-up window. (In your case, if the URL is *exactly* 40-chars long, the window comes up needlessly) Each line in the window was a separate char string, which I then clipped and joined before returning to the original field. If you implement this, make your window 3 lines of 40-chars each. Then you just allow entry on the 2nd and 3rd lines, preserving the original 40 chars. It ain't pretty, but it works....
