Create backups etc (from database and $INFORMIXDIR just in case...)
shut the database. (onmode -uyk)
cd $INFORMIXDIR
as root:
chown -R informix:informix
as informix:
./installserver
-->> supply your new sn and key
when all is done successfully
do as root
./RUN_AS_ROOT.server

Thanks! This seems easier than I expected; I was envisaging
re-installing the whole RDBMS.
One thing I forgot to mention and probably the most important part! I'm
runnin Windows 2003 as the platform OS; I can't seem to see the
installserver script \\ command. Is the procedure different for Windows?

Hum.... windowze.... that'll change it.
create a backup of all (save your onconfig do not overwrite it.
shut the db.
reinstall the software and supply the sn/key. DO NOT configure it!!!!!
test this on a test box first since 9.21. is old and the installer may
not work...
and yes it does make a difference, single user is single user!!!!!
