Looks to me that in terms of user and system time SE7 was close to 250
times
faster than SE5 but these times are likely for the front-end
(dbaccess??) and do not include the actual timings for the sqlexec
processes. This is one of the difficulties
with timing client/server applications on a timesharing OS like UNIX.
The only
difference is in elapsed time which may well be simply because the
process was
asleep waiting for the sqlexec process to finish and there were other
processes
ahead of it in the ready queue. Place the test into an ESQL/C program
and use
gettimeofday to time the actual SQL. Also run the test 100 times each
alternating
between the two versions to eliminate OS overhead biases. Do you have
SE5 &
SE7 looking at the same datafiles on the same disk drives? At least are
the files on
the same filesystems?
