The message is not totally helpful, if you update many records without locking the tables being updated then Informix can run out of record locks. The easiest solution is to lock the tables to be updated, which must be done in transaction, as Informix then only uses one lock per file, instead of one per record: begin work; lock table foo in exclusive mode; { or share mode } update foo set bar = "Y" where (select ... . . commit work -- -- Steve Williamson
