RE: ODBC/NT/Informix - slow connection
Posted in 2000
In our case, when we don't have the client's IP address in the /etc/hosts file on the UNIX server, it caused a very long delay (order of 30 seconds or more) between first running the telnet <UNIX-server> command and actually getting the UNIX server's login: prompt. Once the IP address is in the /etc/hosts file, it takes no more than two seconds. Maybe this has an impact on other autorization routes like ODBC or D4GL's WTK connections. I had a problem where the NT server had an invalid IP address in the DNS lookup that caused a 20 second delay in connecting from a client. If you cannot resolve the delay, post additional info about your setup (database host, informix versions, OS, etc.) dg wrote: > > I've installed the the Informix ODBC driver on my NT workstation and > although I can get connected to the Informix DB, it takes a long time.
