Works with groupwise as well.

Outlook here reads it no problem ....... you can even put .doc (.xls etc) on
it and it will see it as Word (excel ..). AFAIK we haven't tweaked our
system to allow this.
Outlook seems smart enough (some mistake surely ) to decode it and leave it
as an attachment.

This won't send it as a standard attachment that a regular mail client
(like groupwise or outlook) can read, though. To send it as a standard
attachment, you'll have to use something like mutt, which available from
gnu.
