E-mail me here please: munirb@muss.cis.mcmaster.ca How are you? I'm writing to you in hopes of getting some advice. I am currently working on setting up a site in which I need a search capability. I estimate I will have a maximum of 100,000 pieces of data in the forseeable future (in a year or two) in my database. I have researched a little on the structure and setup of an ODBC compliant database... and so far what I have come up with is that I need to buy an "application server" program such as 'ColdFusion' to implement my dynamic search. However, the thing I'm having trouble with figuring out is whether I need to go with one of these commercial database servers out there (i.e. Oracle, Sybex, Informix, etc.)... Or whether I can set up my own database (such as MS ACCESS) on a WEB server and save a ton of money. Another important issue is the fact that my site may have the potential of attracting 20,000 viewers to it a day so the speed and reliability of the search has to be there as well. So... can someone please advise me on the most reliable and cost-efficient method of going about this matter... it would be appreciated.
