Informix 7.2 does not support backups on Solaris 2.5!!!!!

Does this subject sound like your worst nightmare? Well, it's reality for me and probably for all Solaris users running Online 7.2. I try to back up our database using On-Archive, and it acts like everything is fine. When I try to restore of course, nothing works and I get an error message. I immediately called tech support and of course they had the bug logged in their database: backing up doesn't work with System V drivers on Solaris. It only works with System IV drivers. Of course Solaris 2.5 doesn't come with System IV drivers, nor does it work with System IV drivers. Informix is aware of the problem and have yet to make it a priority as far as I can tell. They no longer return my phone calls. Well, a wake up call is coming. So if you're running Solaris with System V drivers and you're using Online 7.2, just be aware that those hundreds of tapes that you have probably have nothing in them. Just hope you don't crash or anything ludicrous like that. Of course, I don't know if this problem is limited to Solaris 2.5 and Online 7.2. It could be a problem with ALL versions of Solaris 2.x and Online 7x, so be sure to make sure you check it out yourself. Robert robert@cedro.com
