Startup time for INF-ONLINE 7.31.UC2

Hello I have load on a INF-ONL database. After a immediate shutdown is the time for shared memory init 108 sec. There are no rollbacks or commits in the protocol. A second test with the same load but a checkpoint (onstat -c) befor the immediate shutdown has only 3 sec. for the shared memory init. Now the question: 1, Why is the time for shared memory init so different ? 2, Why is no commit, rollback for transction when a immedite shutdown is performed ? 3, Depends the time on the numbers of OFF_RECOVERY_THREADS ? Today the system is a test configuration, but soon this configuration is deliverd to the customer and i need infos to explain this situation. Or infos in which documentation i can find the infos. As appendix is the protocol from 3 tests (without load, with load no checkpoint, with load with checkpoint). Just a coincidence, I believe. During this period nothing is being done that would be affected by whether there was a checkpoint or not. The engine is just requesting shared memory segments and semaphores and initializing certain of the data structures, like the LRUS and BUFFERS, to startup values. This would only be affected by load, memory swapping, or OS level delays in shared memory access. What platform and OS version? This is significant. For example on DG/UX on Motorolla M88K systems our startup is from 8 to 15 minutes, on DG/UX on Pentium Pro startup is 2-4 minutes and on Solaris 2.6 SPARK startup is <1 minute! On M88k we have verified that most of the time the oninits are waiting for each other to connect to the shared memory segments as they start up. Art S.
