We are about to try this, but not with : Chinese, and from what I recall of the manual I read, there are : additional data types of nl_char and nl_varchar (may be wrong : names..) which can accept 'extended' character sets, or sets which do : not use the ascii order for sorting. NLS support, with NCHAR and NVARCHAR datatypes, does not support multi-byte character sets, such as those required by Chinese. It supports 8-bit ASCII, with language-defined collation sequences. What is needed to store multi-byte character sets, such as Chinese, is either GLS (Global Language Support), supported starting in 7.20, or ALS (Asian Language Support), special ports available on pre-7.20 products.
