ontape in HP-UX

I'm trying to use 'ontape -s -L 0' to do a full backup of the Database
to tape, but it allways returns with a 'Tape is full' message. I'm using
HP-UX 10.10, do I need a special tapeblock size ?
The DAT cartridge is new and I can use it with tar, etc.
I wrote a perl script that assigns named pipes to stdin and stdout. It
reads messages and responds accordingly, after I have the operators mount
the n-th tape. It works with any number of tapes (one server backs up to
15 tapes).
