Quick quiz:
Does anyone know if any release of Informix OnLine 5 came with a dbexport
that supports the -ss flag? The one I'm working with now does not
(5.10.UC1)

FAIK the -ss flag was not added to dbexport until 7.xx. You can get my
dbschema replacement utility, myschema, which has a flag (-l) which causes
it to output dbimport compatible SQL. It also has a -5 flag to tell it that
the server is an OL5.xx server. You WILL need ESQL/C 7.xx or later (like
the one in the SDK 2.xx packages which are free) or C4GL 7.20 or later to
compile and run it but using its -h<host> option or INFORMIXSERVER you can
run it against the OL5.xx server. You will have to edit the output to
update the placeholders it uses for dbspace names (dbspace#1, etc) because
OL5.xx does not record the dbspace names in an accessible place, but
otherwise it should work like a charm.
Once you have generated the myschema -l script and edited it just copy it
over the script that dbexport wrote out if you are exporting to disk. If
exporting to tape specify the new schema file to dbimport with the
-f<script> flag.

No, -ss does not exist for Version 5.x!
