Hello,
I'm attempting to back up my logical logs, using ontape, and I'm coming
across a few problems.
We've had ODS7.23 up and running for a while and, regrettably, didn't
realize we needed to back the things up until just yesterday.
We have about 70 logical log files, each 5MB big contributing to the logical
log, and when I ran onstat -l, they were ALL 100% full except for the last
one which was around 86% full.
All preceeding logs had the status of U---B---- while the last one was U-C-L
(dashes, not to scale)
Since then, I've discovered that it continues to add logical log files
because our LOGSMAX parameter is set to 95. But I am worried. It's going
to run out soon, and I don't want to keep upping the LOGSMAX parameter.
Why are the log files not being freed? The documentation says to just
shutdown to quiescent mode to roll back any transactions that would keep
them from being freed, but this does not work. Even a cold reboot of the
machine will not free these logs. Can somebody help me with this?
