It's far more important what you want to do around your database. I like the Ingres database in combination with an Openroad front-end. But this means you have to develop real client-server. The things I count for (not highly professional): .the price (initial, yearly en periodic costs), be aware of a three or five year reinvestment !!!! .the guts-feeling about knowledge and experience of your supplier .special things, for instance we choise for Ingres because of the perfect possibility of linking C into 4GL (not otherwise !!!), so let your extension lead your choise .very important is the DBA-tools which are included, a poorly manageble database is a showstopper (Ingres is still very good at this point) I hope you can do something with my remarks.
