(Quite unusual for me. ;-^) If you log in as root, CD to $INFORMIXDIR where the engine was installed, and run ./installonline, it should reset permissions as needed in order to run properly. Just make sure you have the serial number and that mecifully short key. Yes, this will brand the product again but you do not have to reinstall from the tape. And it will brand it as it was already branded before, so what do you care? This sounds easier than checking the ownership/permissions and setting them right manually.
