Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Patricia asked for the maximum number of extents per table. Neil Truby said about 240 by a documented formula; Norman Erickson Lugtu said 233 on Sun for a non-fragmented table, with error -271 on exceeding it. neurologic said there is no fixed number (tables failed at 217, 189, 180). Patricia had one with 385 extents; Norman explained the limit applies per fragment.

Hi guys,
Anyway we can find out the maximum number of extents that a specific
table can reach ?
Let me know,

There is an impenetrable formula in the documentation somwhere. It usually
works out at about 240.

On Sun, the maximum number of extents is 233 on a non-fragmented table.
You will get error -271 if the server attempts to get a new extent with
the said max extent.

There is no solid number for the maximum number of extents that a table
can hold.
One of my databases had a table run out at 217, a buddy of mine had
tables run out at 189 and 180.
Do not rely on any formulas or magic numbers for this issue, they are
all wrong.

Thank you guys,
I got a gift from a previous DBA: I have a table with 385 extents and
over 40 million records. I better do something about it fast. Are you
guys hiring ? :-)

It is possible to have that number of extents if the table is
fragmented. Remember that the extent limit of around 200, is per
fragment.
