There are some more general requirements for running IDS 10 on Linux:
- i686 compatible processor
- Linux kernel 2.4.21 or higher
- glibc 2.3.2 or higher (i686 version)
- libstdc++.so.5
- libpam.so.0
- for use of KAIO only:
install libaio-0.3.96 or later
- for use of ISM only:
install ksh or pdksh
install glibc-devel (ism_startup script checks for /usr/lib/libc.so)
- for use of graphical tools only:
install openmotif-2.2.2 or later
- do not use Reiser file system (reiserfs) for chunks due to
performance reasons
- further information is available in IDS machine notes:
$INFORMIXDIR/release/en_us/0333/ids_machine_notes_10.00.txt
I installed IDS 10 on Debian Sarge (kernel 2.6.6) with following
workarounds:
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 is missing:
apt-get install libstdc++5
Add RPM and initialize it:
apt-get install rpm
mkdir /var/lib/rpm
rpm --initdb
Query all packages should run without error and print nothing:
rpm -qa
cd $INFORMIXDIR
install_rpm -acceptlicense=yes
if "oninit -v" hangs in ADM VP:
The glibc build for i686 processor should be installed automatically if a
i686 or higher optimized kernel is selected in Debian installer. Otherwise
it must be installed manually:
apt-get install libc6-i686

If required you should try to get technical support for Debian in your
support contract.
Probably IDS run on other Linux distributions OK, but its not officially
tested. Some workarounds may be required (see above) and something may not
work as expected.
