It certainly is robust and versatile - but can it perform? : I know it slower than a traditional RDBMS like Sybase or Oracle but : how much slower ? : If anyone can provide or point me to some benchmark statistics on : standard relational queries I would greatly appreciate it. I don't have personal experience on the subject, however I can retell a story: When the 'Internet Shopping Network' was evaluating DBMSs to handle thier OLTP needs, the two finalist were Illustra and Informix. Informix won the contract based on thier strength in scalability, speed, and versitality. The people at Illustra & Informix already knew each other in fact many were friends. It has been said that this episode was the begining of what will be known as the 'Informix Universal Server'. IUS promises to be the best of both worlds: Merging the relational and transaction processing power of Informix with the user defineable datatype ability of Illustra . You can get started using Illustra, yes it will be slow. Informix will be providing a migration path (as an upgrade) to the Universal Server when its ready. Here is the suggested timeline: Now - Illustra Q2 - Informix to provide gateway to integrate Illustra Server with Ifx RDBMS. Q2 - Tool kit available for creating 'DataBlades' (customized datatypes) Q4 - Informix Universal Server will be available. Hope this helps. -- John Regep, || _______ || ZenaComp, Incorporated Information Consultant || -----/ / || 17187 N.Laurel Park Dr. #351 jregep@zenacomp.com || / /______ || Livonia, Michigan 48152 1-(313)-464-3700 || -------- || FAX (313)-464-3730 http://www.zenacomp.com/~zenacomp
