Archive to disk to iSCSI device
Answered: amber (solid confidence) — Two concrete, actionable answers given (the TAPESIZE onconfig setting to avoid the old 2GB archive-to-disk file limit, and checking ulimit/large-file filesystem support); the asker plans to test but the thread ends before reporting back.

Has anyone used an iSCSI connection on AIX 5.x to perform "archive to disk"? And if so, as far as I know, doing this still has to be in 2gb files due to limitations on disk. If that is the case, I would have 160 2gb files since our database is approx 320gb. Restore would be a nightmare! Anybody currently doing this? We are currently running Informix 9.4 (yeah, yeah, we're working on upgrading to IDS10 or maybe even IDS11, but it is what it is now) on a P550 running AIX 5.2. Thanks in advance, Pete

You should be able to set TAPESIZE to 400000000 and be good to go. > We are currently running Informix 9.4 (yeah, yeah, we're working on > upgrading to IDS10 or maybe even IDS11, but it is what it is now) on a > P550 running AIX 5.2. > > Thanks in advance, > Pete Art S. Couple of things I can think of to check are what is your ulimit set to on the OS side of the fence and is your filesystem large file enabled (not sure about this one but I think that there is a different filesystem you can create to allow huge files to be created) -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Pete Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 6:20 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Archive to disk to iSCSI device Has anyone used an iSCSI connection on AIX 5.x to perform "archive to disk"? Thanks for the quick responses. Going to do some testing on Monday and I'll post back what I ran into, whether it's positive or negative. Going to be interesting since the iSCSI hardware is a windows server with a RAID. I'll proably get AIX support involved as well just to make sure the hdisk is setup/created correctly, large file enabled, etc. Pete
