Hi all, Does Informix support recovery of up to the last transaction? I was told Oracle did, ???, wanted to know if that was true and if so, does informix. Thanks in advance for the info. Marco Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
By "up to the last transaction" do you mean recover to the point of
crash? Or do you mean to a particular transaction? The answer to
the former question is yes, Informix Online database servers and now
Dynamic Server engines recover to the last transaction that was
successfully flushed to disk. Actually to the last operation flushed
then it rolls back uncommitted operations to the last committed
transactions. What is flushed and when depends on the logging mode
of the database(s) on the server. This is true for all three Informix
backup utilities restoring to the same machine. If you end up having
to restore to a different machine the granularity is the last backed
up logical log file contents. Only transactions which were backed up
in the logical logs can be transported to the replacement machine for
restore.
If the latter, Informix onbar utility permits point-in-time recovery.
You can specify that only transactions completed prior to a particular
point in time will be recovered.
