We are planning to buy Okidata 520 printers (The 320s don't have barcode fonts) to push most of the work down to the printer. I believe I can send two or three ESC sequences and the "data" to get my barcode. It is not the "printer" that I have problems with...it can print graphics if I send the bytes to it. My problem is with the 4GL handling of strings. Because 4GL will not let me "print" an array of bytes (cuz it just might be a blob!). I know 4GL is not C, but this limitation forces "external" code, which is always harder to maintain or fix... Steve
