We had a similar problem, and we double encrypted the password. Basically, what we did was have the application encrypt the password the user typed in, then that encrypted password was their password on the UNIX box, which in turn was encrypted again by the OS. That way, the users didn't know what their password was, really. For instance: User's password: hellothere Application uses some form of encryption to change it to: XailrasvW UNIX OS thinks the user's password is: XailrasvW In article <8jd8p2$gkb$1@nnrp1.deja.com>, Eric BULEON <eric.buleon@oami.eu.int> wrote: > Hello > > Informix 7.21/7.30 > > How can I prevent users to connect to the database from another program > than our application ? > Our application (running on Windows) connects to the DB through > Informix CLI/ODBC and we do not want the user to connect with another > program (from MS-Query or VBA for example). > > Thanks > > -- > Eric > > Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ > Before you buy. > -- # unrm / ksh: unrm: not found # man cpio Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
