Jon is effectively quoting the Informix documentation. Unless you wish to play Russian Roulette, you will take the documentation at face value, and accept that ROWIDs are no longer unique across fragmented tables, regardless of what you find empirically. Further, you will code your applications on the assumption that ROWID no longer works -- in other words, you won't use it. The main relevant sections of the manual are: Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server Administrator's Guide, Vol 2, Version 7.1, p43-35ff. Informix Guide to SQL: Tutorial, Version 7.1, p9-39ff, p3-16ff Informix Guide to SQL: Syntax, Version 7.1, p1-29, p1-65, p1-156, p1-550, p1-599. As an aside, ISQL Perform will not work on fragmented tables because of the changes in ROWID. There is a bug in PTS to this effect, though it is most unlikely to be fixed.
