I am attempting to connect from a Sun Solaris machine to an Informix
database server which is running on an HP-UX machine. When my esqlc
program attempts to connect to the database server, I get the following
error:
Error 25507 while connecting to the database: The specified service name
or protocol is unknown.
The pertinent environment variables are:
INFORMIXDIR=/usr/local/ifmxsdk
INFORMIXSERVER=mbiodbc
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS=/usr/local/ifmxsdk/etc/sqlhosts
The entry in the sqlhosts file is:
mbiodbc onsoctcp mbigate onpccarsi
The entry in the /etc/services file is:
onpccarsi 1004/tcp # connect to ifmx
The entry in the ONCONFIG file on the mbi is:
NETTYPE soctcp,1,32,NET # Override sqlhosts nettype parameters
I am at a loss to know why I am still getting this error. I have also
tried putting the port number directly in the sqlhosts file, I get the
same message. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks,
Mark Aardsma
I think you'll need tlitcp on the Solaris end, I don't believe Informix
tcp connectiosn runs over sockets. At the HP end I don't know.
