RE: unload to file in a stored proc not allowed ?
Posted in 1998
Hi,
There are a few statements which are marked DB-Access only in the manual,
and LOAD and UNLOAD are two of those statements. Others include CHECK
TABLE, REPAIR TABLE, OUTPUT and INFO. All these commands are
distinguished because they are implemented by subroutines in DB-Access,
rather than by being passed direct to the engine. Consequently, the engine
has not got any clues about what the statements mean. No, they cannot be
executed in SPL. There are a bunch of ESQL/C statements which can't be
executed in SPL too, including the connection management statements and
the prepared statement and cursor manipulation stuff. I also suspect that the
DATABASE and CLOSE DATABASE statements are not allowed in SPL, but
haven't got the manual at hand to verify that.

An unload command that works fine using dbaccess interactively
won't work within a stored procedure. When I try to create the stored
procedure it generates a syntax error, pointing at the first char
of the unload statement. Is it the case that some SQL statements
are not allowed within stored procedures ? I checked the UNLOAD TO
documentation but could find nothing about this.
