If so did you check they were fixed in IDS 10 before you moved to it? I have had around 9 bug fixes for IDS 9.40 recently. Almost all were already fixed in IDS 10! We had 9.40.UC7X6 (Solaris) 9.40.UC7X9 (Solaris) 9.40.UC8W1 (Solaris) 9.40.UC8X3 (Solaris) 9.409.UC8X2 (Linux same as 9.40.UC8X3 for Solaris) 10.00.FC4X5 (Linux). Don't say you can't get bugs fixed I have had 6 patch releases and >9 bugs fixed in the last few months!! Hell the last 3 Tech Flashs have all been bugs I have reported. Am I the only one who bothers to report bugs and get them fixed? Or do other people do what I see which is "What do you expect Informix is crap" and do not bother to report them or get them fixed? Well if you keep living with bugs then the product will just get worse as IBM never hears about problems!! There are a couple since outstanding in IDS 10.00.FC5 (already fixed in N?? nightly builds hence they will go into 10.00.xC6. Have you talked to your IBM Account Manager? Neil, is your bug fixed yet?

The sporadic assert failure bug that my customer is still experiencing in 10.0xC3 was said to be fixed in some patched versions of xC3 and in xC4 (I say "said to be" as you can't by definiton systematically reproduce a sporadic bug, but I've certainly not encountered it in any later release), but in these later releases other things worse than the original problem were introduced, or re-intorduced. 10.0FC4W3 seems to be very stable though, and the customer is moving to that at the end of the World Cup (being a TV company it's a busy time for them now). >> Have you talked to your IBM Account Manager? You should remember, David, that you work for a major US/global bank, and your experiences may be coloured by the special attention you get. All but the very biggest IBM customers do not necessarily have a field-based IBM account manager, and although there will be an office-based person somewhere with responsibility for even the smallest, this person is unlikely to be a specialist in databases (or even in software), and probably will not know much about Informix. That is not to say that this route should not work, but it probably isn't as easy for most users as it is for you to identify and contact the right person.

I am still awaiting more fixes that are NOT in xC5 - some are in the xC5NXXX ( i.e. nightly builds) and I think at least one of NOT in 10 yet. I am hoping to get all the fixes I need in 10.00.xC6.and 9.40.xC9 (9.40.xC9 is currently predicted for mid July but probably end of July is more likely). > >> Have you talked to your IBM Account Manager? > > You should remember, David, that you work for a major US/global bank, and > your experiences may be coloured by the special attention you get. Even we do not have a field based account manager. When I worked at AMP System we had a 50 man company and only 5 of us did Informix. I still was able to get hold of my Account Manager and get him to expedite a bug fix. People just need to kick arse. If people are stuck then I would like to know and I can help kick arse. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW OF bugs that cause crashes/incorrect results in 10.00.xC5 /9.40.xC9 when it comes out that are not mentioned in the release notes I do not want to put stuff live that will come back to bite me. If people can mention these bugs to me I can add them to my list and since I work at a big customer I can help get these fixes moving! NOTE: I am not interested in replication issues or Kanji character set stuff but the rest is interesting to me. David.
If a fix is in 10.00.UC5Nxx then that is a nighly build prior to the release of UC5 so the fix WILL be included in UC5 when it is available. If they are in UC5Wxx then that is a "special build" (informix called it a "patch") after the release of UC5 and those fixes are not the UC5 release but can be made available if necessary.
