We're about to upgrade from IDS 9.40 to 11.50. We were told that the calculations used for version 7 & 9 are different than version 11. I looked every where for version 11 configuration tuning, but with not much luck. Whatever info I got back was fairly simple and did not cover the details for tuning, especially with the onconfig file. If you have any tips and hints on performance tuning, especially any methods/formula/calculation for the version 11 onconfig file, I would greatly appreciate if you can share them with me. By the way, I searched the IBM web site for IDS 11 performance tuning class, but didn't see any being offered. Any ideas? Thanks so much for your help! Hi Lynn, You may find IDS 11 Performance Guide at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v111/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.p erf.doc/perf.htm Thanks, Sunil --- On Sun, 8/17/08, Nguyen, Lynn <Lynn.Nguyen@the401kcompany.com> wrote: From: Nguyen, Lynn <Lynn.Nguyen@the401kcompany.com> Subject: IDS 11 Performance Tuning [13139] To: ids@iiug.org Date: Sunday, August 17, 2008, 11:36 AM We're about to upgrade from IDS 9.40 to 11.50. The only big changes between tuning for 9.40 and 11.50 is that since 11.50's checkpoints are true non-blocking (not FUZZY - but full checkpoints that do not block updaters) you can increase the LRU_MIN_DIRTY and LRU_MAX_DIRTY significantly to take advantage of the more efficient CHUNK writes at checkpoint time. These were normally to be avoided in all earlier IDS releases because even FUZZY checkpoints blocked out transactions for a time and even the FUZZY checkpoint versions had to perform full checkpoints periodically. Beyond that there are new tunables to let the engine control the checkpoint related variables to either reduce checkpoint time or to make sure that recovery time after a system crash meets the specified time limit. The engine in 11.50 can also be configured to automatically add and drop AIO VPs to maintain IO efficiency for COOKED chunks and other cooked IO that cannot use KAIO. The addition of DIRECT IO in version 11.10 means that you can use KAIO for cooked chunks under certain conditions and that these reads and writes bypass the system buffer cache making them ALMOST as quick as RAW IO. Read the Administrators Reference and Performance Guide manuals for more details.
