Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Off-topic banter, not a technical thread. A poster linked to a Chicago Tribune air-show photo gallery as an inside joke about former Informix CEO Jean-Yves Dexmier (a onetime fighter/test pilot), noting Informix sponsored a Formula One car but nothing aeronautical. Replies ranged from a jab at the ex-CEO, to a reference to the Ramstein air show disaster, to chat about Informix's Ascential-related history and the Wikipedia claim that Wal-Mart urged IBM to buy Informix. No technical problem or resolution.

Serge actually went to school? Its no wonder he can bark on demand.
Actually Serge, it was a bit of an inside joke at Dexmier. He was a
fighter pilot/test pilot in France before starting his stellar
business leadership career.
Informix sponsored a formula one racer, but didn't do anything
aeronautic which I thought was interesting. But then again, Larry has
his private MiG fighter and has long been interested in flight.
Sorry that the IBMers didn't catch the poke at Informix's past senior
management.
As to OTCs post, the damage was already done before Dexmier got
involved. Although ironically, it was under his management lead that
Informix bought Ass-n-tail that lead to the reverse coup.
Incidently, if you go to the Wiki page on Informix, someone rewrote
history. It seems that someone posted that Wal*Mart begged Janet to
buy Informix. ;-)

Not the first time I hear that rumor. I for one am not the one to guess.
It is not uncommon for customers to approach IBM to suggest acquisitions
and or partnership though. Have seen that myself first hand.
Note that whatever your version of the history entails doesn't have to
collide with the Wal*Mart story. Certainly IBM doesn't make a $1B
decision "just because" Wal*Mart asks.. (I hope)
Cheers
Serge
