Debugger strangeness...

Would anyone happen to have ideas on why the Informix-4gl debugger would exhibit complete weirdness debbugging a program that the rds 4gl runner would have no problem running?? More specifcally when the debugger hits a prepared statement in one particular program it flat out hangs... prepare f_select from f_where_prt declare cur1 cursor for f_select <--- hangs the statement itself is fine, f_where_prt is a completely valid sql statement and runs as such in sql and fglgo, there are no tabs in the file, Ive removed all objects and executables and form files associated with the program and recompiled. Ive even tried changing the name of the cursor and recompiling...with still no luck. We have no problem whatsoever with debugging any other programs with similar or even the exact same statements yet the debugger hangs when it hits it...Ive even re-installed the debugger itself thinking something might have gotton weirded out with it, but nope, no success... I then commented out that line and tried again...the debugger goes along through the program until it hits a construct statement and hangs yet again.... very weird... anyone else run into this sort of thing before? Any ideas that could cause this and/or cause the debugger to hang on a statement yet the runner to be ok with it???
