OK. We do that regularly from within cron just for a check (bcheck
-n). Only *very* rarely do we encounter any problem, and that's easily
fixed with a bcheck -y.

Sounds like they've got a problem.

How often? If it's the system mentioned above, I'm not surprised.

Well, only a moron would run a mission-critical 24x7 system on SE! How
would you back it up? But, despite what you may hear, not every system
in the world is a "mission critical 24x7" system. Let's be real.

Probably.

Excuse me, but I have seen *many* threads in this newsgroup regarding
the fire-and-brimstone wrath-of-God problems that can occur from kill
-9 ing (is that a word?) an sqlturbo (or equivalent) process. Why
should SE be any different?

If I ran a kill -9 against an sqlturbo doing the same thing, could you
guarantee that they would be correct? For all versions of OnLine?

True.

Yep. That sucks all right. Just goes to show you that you can make it
foolproof, but not idiot-proof.

You've got some serious problems. We're supporting 250 sites with well
over half of them 2.10 and we don't have that many problems.

That's odd.

Well, if that's been your experience, I can see why you'd be upset. My
experience is that SE is a good, viable solution for many sites. For
us, it's been fast and solid.
