Informix ODS 7.24 on Sequent NUMA-Q
Posted in 1998
We are having problems testing a 450-user OLTP application. We have been told that the Informix/NUMA-Q combination will not scale well for our test. Anyone with INFORMIX/NUMA-Q OLTP installed please respond with comments!!! We have 2 quads (1GB mem, 4 180MHz P6 on each). We would like them to run our 4GL based application with 450 users at 40% utilized (CPU). We have seen 310 users at 70% (with less than acceptable thruput). Both quads were being used. Quad 0 was running our engine, and a run queue was set up to pull everything else to Quad 1. Is it possible that there is too much inter-quad activity?? We have seen Symmetry equipment do much better scaling with OLTP. Our application will need to support 850 users by year 2000. We have 550 now. Is NUMA-Q techology capable of OLTP at these levels?? To better understand the capabilities of each quad without the complexities of inter-quad accesses, we will probably shut down Quad 1 and test Quad 0 all alone. We could partition some of the application but the majority (70%) must remain together. Also, Informix has claimed that ODS 7.24 (but not 7.23) is capable of scaling. I have searched the release notes without much luck. Thanks in advance for any help -- Dave Killough
