Is this true ? If what you mean to ask is "Can i resize an array in Informix 4GL dynamically?" the answer is no. Any array in Informix 4GL must be defined with a fixed size. For the purposes of reading records from a database into an array you must make sure in your code that you do not try to fill more elements of the array then are defined. There is however no way of filling an array directly from a query without some kind of programmed loop that increases the index so it isn't much of an issue in this respect. Of course not having dynamic arrays may mean you have to define seveal arrays larger than otherwise necessary. We have found this to be a small problem for most applications as the amount of memory used isn't a big deal - most of the time. In some cases it would have been great indeed to have dynamic arrays. However for those (and all other things) we are moving to OO based tools (Java) where the whole issue dissapears completely.
