Unlike 4GL, an object oriented language is also dependent on the class hierarchy. IMHO it wasn't thought out correctly. But then again, they were two years late in coming up with the language specifications. (Building a RDBMS is different than building a language.) Of course when your hands are tied because you have to make the tool backwardly compatible, well what can one expect. Or trying to get objects to behave under two different windowing system. (X and WindBlows) I mean don't get me wrong. Context Sensitive languages are bad. But add to it the base data structures and message passing constructs, well, not everyone can do it right. Look at Java. That took awhile and what you see was the result of a lot of effort and R&D money spent right. This is of course different from scripting languages. (Python, TK/TCL ...) But now we are getting off topic and well, its beyond the scope of the viewing audience. ;-) What I find interesting is that there's a restatement of the same facts that were posted here almost a year ago...
