server startup
A user running IDS 11.50 Developer Edition on Windows XP started the server manually (via runas as the informix user) after an onmode -ky shutdown; oninit appeared to succeed but the server immediately stopped with 'listener-thread: err = -25572 ... Network driver cannot bind a name to the port, System error = 48' and onstat reported shared memory not initialized. Replies suggested the port (9088) was still held by another process/the previous instance, advised checking with netstat, adding the host to the hosts file/registry sqlhosts, editing the Windows services file or setnet32 to pick a free port, and noted the sqlhosts entry name must match DBSERVERNAME/DBSERVERALIASES. I normally add the PC's IP address in the host file (
c:\\\\windows\\\\system32\\\\drivers\\\\etc ) and make sure the host is in the sqlhost (
registry using setnet ).
The port number will have been added to the services file

The error message shows your port 9088 has been used by other application so
IDS listener can't bind to to it.
You may use "netstat" to identify which application is using 9088. You may
also change your services file to use another port.

thanks for the answer but when i restart my desktop the service starts fine
and the engine is up
i checked netstat -a

so i cant understand why i do not see ports here
then in services i have two entries

Is this the way you have things configured? (I got this from your earlier
posts):
DBSERVERNAME ol_ids_1150_1 # Name of default Dynamic Server
DBSERVERALIASES svc_drda # List of alternate dbserver names
and sqlhosts has
svc_ids_1150_1 onsoctcp host svc_ids_1150_1
The first column of the sqlhosts file should be the name of the DBSERVERNAME
or DBSERVERALIAS as it exists in your $ONCONFIG file.

After reboot your PC, probably the other application hasn't bind to 9088 port
yet so IDS can bind to it now.
On windows, the services file is under
C:\\\\WINDOWS\\\\system32\\\\drivers\\\\etc\\\\services.
You may directly edit the this file to change the port number of
"svc_ids_1150_1 9088/tcp #ol_ids_1150_1".
Or you can use setnet32 to edit "Service Name" under tab "Server Information".
You may input a port number there directly so you don't have to use services
file.
The sqlhost information was stored in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\Informix\\\\SqlHosts\\\\
Your setting looks good. You just need to pick up a different port to avoid
binding conflict.

thanks for the answer but when i restart my desktop the service starts fine
and the engine is up
i checked netstat -a
TCP hostname:svc_ids_1150_1 host.corp.com:0 LISTENING
TCP hostname:svc_drda host.corp.com:0 LISTENING
so i cant understand why i do not see ports here
then in services i have two entries
svc_ids_1150_1 9088/tcp #ol_ids_1150_1
svc_drda 9089/tcp #svc_drda

i have added my ip to hosts file also.
How can i change the port. Is there anything wrong with values above
