Inittial and next extend size effects on temporary db space
Posted in 1999
Hi I am new to Informix and struggling with initial and next extent sizes in Informix 4.0 on SCO unix 3.2. Before I get the cat calls.... yes its old versions, but there are good reasons (like lost source code) that keep my client using the product. The problems I get are that if I increase the initial and next extent sizes on some tables I get out of space errors for temp space creation on joined queries. In rare cases I also get out of memmory errors. Therefore: 1 Does the extend sizes effect the amount of temporary database space alloced by Informix in the creation of temp DB spaces? 2 Can we easily extend the size of the root DB space? 3 In the settings for memory assigned for buffers etc, how do I differentiate between the memory use by the engine and that used by users? 4 does anyone have a reliable ODBC product to allow VB access into Informix 4.0 (VB 5.0, ODBC 3.0, crystal 5.0) Thanks one and all.
