informix IDS7.31 crawling

I have just upgraded my server from HP900k260 HP-UX10.2 32 bit 1,5GIG
ram with informix IDS 7.30 and runner 7.2 UD6 TO HP 900 L100 HP-UX
11.0 2GIG ram with Informix IDS 7.31 UC5-1. with runner 7.2 UD8. The
problem is that I could not use the 7.2 UD8 runner to run programs
compiled on UD4 compiler as It needed a recompilation. So I had to use
7.2UD6 runner.
The worst arose when the whole database started to crawl. On the Unix
side if you run glance everything is ok. I have almost 200 people
working on line. If you type onstat -g wai|grep sm_read|wc -l
you get over 300 records. What could be the problem, please help .The
check points are as low as five seconds.

There's nothing wrong with a wait on sm_read if your application is
designed to remain connected (as it appears to be). It typically means
that the application is connected but doing nothing database related (e.g
data-entry in progress, User gone for a coffee).
What does onstat -g rea produce?
What does the following command produce (cut and paste it)?
onstat -u | \\
grep -v '^.........Y' | \\
grep '^..........-' | \\
grep -v
"^..........................................................0"
Have you updated statistics after the upgrade?
Run "onstat -p" twice with a interval of about 10 seconds between them
and post the results.

This version has a broken optimiser, I trialed it and it was truly abysmal!
I've now got 7.31.uc6 to test but have received a tech alert with the jolly
title of "Initialisation fails when running IDS 7.31.uc6" SIGSEGV stack
growth error whem passing arguments to oninit on the command line E.g.
oninit -iy
my advice would be to wait for the next version and to be sure to test it
properly before going live. As you've upgraded OS as well I guess this may
not be an option for you......
