Ok i have this question....we had a problem with one of our databases here.....we do a full backup (0) every day....si we wanted recover just one database but we couldn't.....what we have to do? We called informix in usa and they told us that if we didn't have a continuos backup running for the logs we can't recover a single database of the tapes........ Now we have a session with the continuous backup running all the time......but to be sincere i don't belive that.......so what do you think about this guys? and how can i recover a single database from my full backup level 0..... You can't. If you want to restore a single database, create a separate Informix instance containing only 1 database. The only way to "restore" a single database (unless it is in it's own
dbspace) in a Multi-database instance is to :
1) Level 0 backup of current instance.
2) Restore the instance from a previous backup (one containing good copy
of database).
3) dbexport the database
4) Restore Instance from Level 0 (made in step 1).
5) drop database to be restored
6) dbimport database.
(Painful I know, but it is possible).
If the database is in it's own dbspace, you can restore just that
dbspace.

You misunderstood. With logging and log backups you can recover a single
DBSPACE not database. If the database lives in its own dbspace(s) then yes
you can recover just one database. Otherwise, get a test machine with
enough disk, create all the chunks links there, install the IDS software,
create an sqlhosts and ONCONFIG file, edit /etc/services, restore the entire
instance, dbexport your database, cart the files to the other system, drop
the database and dbimport it again from the export.
