ONUNLOAD, ONLOAD Questions
Posted in 2000
I am trying to use onunload to unload a 13 gig database to tape. We use the
CA Unicenter tape management software and I receive errors whenever I try to
write to a CA mounted tape. The error I receive is Informix error No 16
which says that the mount device is busy. In the Unix log I get the
message: CAITAPED_F_0141000143 Not yours. I can successfully write to a CA
mounted tape using ontape, dd and tar. I was able to write to tape using
onunload at the database level when I totally took CA tape management out of
the picture, but this is not a workable solution for our production
environment.
Second question: I am trying to copy the data from our database from one
informix instance to a second instance on a separate test box. The database
spans multiple dbspaces which consist of multiple chunks. Is there a way to
direct the onload utility to put the tables in all the right dbspaces when
onunloading and onloading at a database level? All I see in the
documentation is an option to specify one dbspace for the database. The
dbspace issue is even a problem if I want to onunload a database and later
restore it to the same database.
I really like to hear how others are using onunload / onload successfully to
move fairly large databases across environments.
