RE: Problems with odbc drivers

The index field prompt is presented because the MS Access database engine (called Jet) requires a unique identifier for rows in a linked table in order to perform updates. If you want to update rows, you need to create a unique index and tell Access what fields it contains. -----Original Message----- From: David Bouriaud [mailto:David.Bouriaud@ac-rouen.fr] Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 1999 2:41 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Problems with odbc drivers Hi everybody ! I have a database under informix on a unix machine, and I would like to create an interface with MS access to this database. So I've downloaded the ODBC drivers from informix, configured them, and they work fine (or nearly). I've indeed the following problem: I can access my data, delete some of them, but when I try to do something like UPDATE ..... SET ........ WHERE .........; I get the following message : "L'op'ration doit utiliser une requ'te qui peut 'tre mise ' jour" (eg: "The operation must use a request that can be updated" ) error code 3073. If someone could help... Thanks by advance. Regards. In the meantime, I've found why I had this problem, and if it can help someone... In fact, when I've linked the tables to my MS access database, I was prompted for one or more field on each table that would be representative for every row in the table. I thought it was inapropriate, since I don't have much data in my database. In fact, I really had to do so, because it enables access to add rows in the tables. I also had to create indexes on some fields to have it run more efficiently, and to create relation between tables as well. My other problem now would be to have my access database run faster. It takes nearly 5 sec. to show me the login to informix window. Is there a way to do so ?
