As promised, here is a summary of the responses I received on the following question: QUESTION: One of our users reports that the following program occasionally returns a time different fromt he Unix Date command. The program is run using binaries compiled under Sun 4.1.3 and Informix 502.UC6. The machine running the program is running Solaris 2.3 and Informix 5.02.UC7. I'm still trying to reproduce the problem, but I believe him without having done so. My question is has anyone else reported a similar problem. If so, is there a work around? PROGRAM: Database dictmb Main Define timestamp datetime year to minute Let timestamp = current Display timestamp End main RESPONSES: Clinton Smith reports a similar problem under Solaris 2.3 and suspects the TZ variable. He also indicates problems with two users logged in on the same terminal and the 'w' command responding with exagerated times for logins. Scott Holmes reports a similar problem and offers the following work around: He defines a char(8) variable and sets it to DATE or TIME. Informix reports a bug which sets the time backwards. (This does not appear to be what is occurring in our system.) They have no work around. Jack Parker suggests looking at the TZ variable. STATUS: We still have not reproduced the bug in a controlled experiment. We believe the TZ variable to be set consistantly within our system and it appears that a reboot of the machine may have cured the problem. If and when we isolate and reproduce the problem, I'll post whatever I know at that time. Thanks to all who have responded. Tim timh@amgen.com
