we were lazy to optimize with the Raid setup and simply used the same config (aha2940 for external devices and cd-rom, a mylex with three channels and six seagate cheetah 18 GB hd) with Raid 5 on the mylex. The disc accesses are extremely fast. No need to do more tuning on our side. The Linux drivers for the mylex are VERY performant. Much faster than for example the SCO drivers. You will see a large improvement to an Adaptec. Let me recommend that you seriously consider RAID10 using the ICP Vortex (www.icp-vortex.com) controllers. They fully support Linux with their own drivers and support several different RAID levels including RAID10 on their multi-level controllers (they also have RAID5 only controllers). Art S. Kagel No ICP does not pay me. I just like their stuff and any hardware manufacturer willing to support Linux wholeheartedly. ;-) Obnoxio The Clown wrote: > > From: sandeep.singh@usa.net > > > >I am trying to set up an Informix database (7.3) on > >Linux (Redhat 6.0) on an Intel box (dual PII 400). > >Since this is going to be a production machine, I > >will be using mirroring of database chunks.
