Probably. dostats will run update statistics high and medium with the distributions only syntax so the low is needed to populate the sysindexes, syscolumns and systable information for the table and indexes (nrows, colmin, colmax, leaves, nunique, etc. distributions only does not gather this information) as well as submit any logically deleted index pages to the btree cleaner for physical deletion (I don't know if it does this for later versions where the btree cleaner was replaced by the btree scanner.) What version of IDS are you running? There are some update statistics performance improvements that you can take advantage of that were added in 7.31xD3 and 9.30xC3 if run times are a concern.
