migrating databases

Hello all
I am going to migrate my database from one Sun server to another. I would
like to transfer the existing structure from datafiles to chunks. How do I
set it up? Are there any rules or guidelines to follow when specifying which
tables go into which chunks? More imporantly how do I do it? Would I use
onmonitor, dbaccess or the Sun?

You can use dbexport/dbimport to migrate the database.
Bring up the new instance on the new machine, setting up the
dbspaces/chunks on RAW devices as needed. When you dbimport
specify the dbspace to contain the database's system catalog
tables. Dbexport does not place ANY 'IN ...' clauses in the
schema that it generates so you will either have to edit the
schema and add the missing IN clauses to place the tables
back in their proper dbspaces or generate a replacement
schema using my dbschema replacement utility 'myschema'
which can generate a dbimport compatible schema file
containing the original 'IN...' clauses and extent
information. Then you will only have to edit to change
things you want to be different on the new machine.
Myschema is part of the package utils2_ak available from the
IIUG Software Repository.
