Do you have applications which currently use the Unix sort? I do not believe anything informix does uses a Unix sort.... Correct; Informix sorting uses its own sort routines. > >===== Original Message From David McNight <dmcnight@bju.edu> ===== > >Would a product like Syncsort Sort package for Unix, as a replacement > >for the Unix sort, give better performance for DSS type queries that do > >a lot of group by or order by in an Informix Online 7.31 environment? > >(We have a growing need for report writing needs querying our Informix > >databases; they do a lot of sorting and grouping and can run from > >several minutes to many hours ( especially marketing stuff). If your report writers are doing the sorting outside the database, then syncsort will probably be better than Unix sort. If your report writers are using Informix to do the sorting, then it won't make much difference unless you extract the data from the database and then apply syncsort. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.95 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
