Process Time Differs

Hi all, We are running IDS 7.31. We have a process which runs everyday. Problem is sometimes its taking 30-40 minutes and sometimes its taking more than 3 hours. But number of transactions are more or less same everyday. But the process completion time differs everyday. We are running update statistics on the entire DB everyday at MEDIUM. Indexes are properly built. what could be the reason and what needs to be analysed. Pls provide forward Path Thanx Suresh
1. IDS 7.31 is very old and out of support (have many bugs, though very stable)
2. Without much info. of chunk setup (raw , cooked, SAN etc.), OS (Swap) and
IDS configuration, I would try to find out if any batch or IO intensive
process runs when it takes longer time.
3. If OS is unix, I would use sar, iostat to capture some stats
4. Worth looking at some of the onstat:
onstat -p, onstat -g glo, onstat -g ath (when it takes logner)
Cheers.

It could be many many things, you give us nothing to work with. I'd suggest contacting a consultant to look your system over and recommend tuning etc. Contact me directly and I'll recommend several you can speak to. Art S. FYI:
IDS 7.31 is very old... but is not out of support. They're just
not adding the 9.x, 10.x, 11.x bells and whistles to it. There are very
few outstanding bugs remaining in the more recent releases.
As to the other issue, does your app have lock mode wait set in
it? If so, you may be running into concurrency problems. Are the
tables in question set to lock mode row?
As has been said, more info is better. What is your OS, what is
the complete version of IDS (7.31.FD8, or something like that) and what
type of app is it (4gl, odbc, jdbc, perl, etc.)?
