Not a HP person myself, but in ages gone by, O/S vendors promised us backwards binary compat... HA! lies. all LIES! We tried installing 5.1 on a MP-RAS 3.2 box... hehe! never happened. It ran fine under MP-RAS 2.something though. Same sort of problems on AIX where kernel structures change almost every maintenance release. demn back to punch cards! brett Rex Richardson wrote: > > Trust but verify. I agree with Brett. PREPARE to RECOMPILE your applications. For your sanity if nothing else. Also gives you a new project. LOAD new OS onto a TEST box, Recompile WORLD, Test Thoroughly, THEN approach your PRODUCTION box... Note make at least 2 Backups of everything DB, Applications, etc. before you touch your Production Box. Murphy is out there waiting for you to be careless... I have not found any binary problems between 10.XX and 11.0, but I am not sure about earlier releases. If possible, call HP support for information on such upgrade issues. I have found them very useful. > The next question, then: is it possible to partition a drive on the > HP machine and try Informix 9.04 on one partition, and 5.1 on another? Although it is possible to run different releases of Informix on the same machine, I doubt that Informix 9 is supported on HP-UX releases earlier than 10.20. I agree with the suggestion that you do the upgrade on a new box. With my own clients, I always insist on a test/development system to test out the upgrade process. Even better is a new system to migrate to. Best wishes, David Dahl Portland, Oregon
